One of the most meaningful trips I've had the honor of planning was a custom honeymoon through Portugal – a journey filled with coastal charm, historic palaces, and delicious food.

The couple wanted something romantic yet relaxed, with scenic views, unforgettable meals, and space to slow down and enjoy each other. I loved curating every detail to match their style.

First Stop: Lisbon's Timeless Charm

Boutique Hotels, Cobblestone Streets & Champagne Nights

After landing in Lisbon and checking into Solar do Castelo (a boutique hotel inside the castle walls), they were welcomed with the hotel's complimentary champagne, available all night long. A perfect start to a week of celebration!

The next morning, they wandered the cobblestone streets of Alfama, admired the colorful tilework around every corner, and brunched at Tomorrow at 9 Café, which quickly became a trip favorite.

A Day Trip to Cascais

Seaside Escape

That afternoon, we arranged a rental car for a scenic day trip to Cascais, a colorful coastal beach town perfect for wandering. Their favorite meal of the entire honeymoon happened here: a whole grilled fish at Maritimo, enjoyed right in the heart of the town, with live music surrounding them.

After lunch and a bit of shopping, they returned to Lisbon and walked to the Miradouro de Santa Luzia for postcard-worthy views over Alfama. From there, they explored the vibrant nightlife of Pink Street, grabbing a few celebratory drinks before ending the evening with a candlelit dinner at Palácio Chiado, an elegant restaurant set inside an 18th-century palace. A full day of joy, flavor, and adventure.

Dreamy Days in Sintra

Rainy Castles & Secret Tunnels

April is Portugal's rainy season, but even with scattered showers, the trip never missed a beat. If anything, the moody weather made Sintra feel more magical. The day began at Pena Palace, a vibrant, fairytale castle perched above the hills. Despite the fog, the colors and views were absolutely breathtaking.

As the rain cleared, they made their way to Quinta da Regaleira, which quickly became their favorite attraction of the entire trip. With its lush gardens, moss-covered stone paths, and hidden underground tunnels, it felt like a fantasy.

After returning to Lisbon, they capped off the day with an Aperol spritz at the artsy and scenic Café da Garagem, soaking in the city views. As the sun set, they wandered through the neighborhood and ended the evening with authentic Italian pizza at Retrogusto84 that made for the perfect comfort meal after a full day of adventure.

Porto's Romance & River Views

River Views, Local Charm & a Wine-Lover's Dream

A scenic train ride took them north to Porto, where they checked into Guest House Douro, a riverside gem full of charm and personal touches. They explored the city's famous tile-covered São Bento Station, and loved crossing the Dom Luís I Bridge into Vila Nova de Gaia.

One of my favorite parts to hear about is their visit to the iconic Livraria Lello in Porto. With its winding staircase, stained glass ceiling, and fairy tale feel, it's no wonder many believe it helped inspire Harry Potter.

The next day set out for a full-day wine tour in the Douro Valley, complete with tastings, a traditional Portuguese lunch, and a peaceful boat cruise through the vineyards.
